The next ‘one’ person

I recently got laid off from my job and I’m taking it slow.

Reflecting on my career and what’s next.

And I think I found a mission for the next chapter of my life.

It’s finding the next ‘one’ person who could show me a path forward.

Let me explain.

I have come to a life lesson that just one person can transform your career and life.

The one who is more experienced, more exposed, wiser, and simply the one who has seen more of life from different walks of life or simply with a perspective from a different geography.

These few people who have an impact on your life could come and go in different time periods of your life.

In the West, it might sound like getting divorced and searching for a wife but I’m talking about other forms of relationships and bonding that help you navigate your life. Like, friends, teachers and tutors, mentors, a colleague, boss, a coach, etc.

For eg. At a young age it’s your mother and father or sibling who has a greater impact on your life.

In teen-age, one of your best buddies makes it bearable.

After 20, your colleague, boss, mentor, or that one person!

After getting married it’s your wife.

At mid-life the person can be different, a coach may be.

The point is, there’s always one person who makes the world seem possible.

So what do you do when you find that one person?

Simply keep in touch and build opportunities for both of you to grow.

Seek mentorship.

Learn craftsmanship.

Help them with your skills.

Learn from them.

Or even teach them.

When you know you found the person try to keep up them with as much as you can.

Let the friendship and relationship flourish.

Show gratitude.

Keep in mind they might not be with you forever.

Life changes every day and the same people might not be always in touch with you.

For eg,

I had a middle school teacher who made Computer Programming a pleasant experience.

In high school, I had a teacher who convinced me that language is everything and helped me advance my English writing.

I had an investor who ignited in me an entrepreneurial spirit and supported me to establish and run Semicolon Developers.

I had one person who helped me realize my dream to visit Silicon Valley.

Later, I met another person who helped me grab an opportunity to live and work in the US.

After I returned home, I had one person who trusted me and offered me a job.

And now I’m finding my kids to be the person who wants to see me grow and become the best.

There’s always one person.

And as you progress with your life and open new chapters, you do your best to find the next ‘one’ person to explore life and opportunities.

Believe me, you should always be open to network with people to find that one person.

So as you go along living your days always seek to find that one person that could change your life forever.

It is a skill, network, and a little bit of luck sprinkled around that it takes to find the person.

And cheers to the next ‘one’ person that’ll show me the path forward.

Please leave a comment about your thoughts on this topic.

That’s all I got for today.

Happy Friday!

P.S. I’d like to thank every person who has helped me advance in my life trajectory.
