What Do You Want to Be?

A poem about What Do You Want to Be by Aabhash
(with a little help from ChatGPT)

When I was small, they’d ask of me,
“What do you want to grow up to be?”
Some said doctors, others said kings,
But I dreamed of codes and blinking things.

Not swords or crowns, nor ball or stage,
I found my joy in a digital page.
A thinker, a builder, a dreamer unseen,
I want to be a software machine.

To craft an app, to fix a bug,
To feel the thrill of every debug.
Logic and passion in line by line,
A world of zeros and ones that’s mine.

I’ll build with care, I’ll learn each day,
And help the world in my own way.
So ask me now, and let it be clear:
I want to be a software engineer.

With fingers dancing on a keyboard, bright,
I’ll code deep into the silent night.
Creating tools that others use,
From games to apps, from code to news.

I’ll shape the future, block by block,
With Java, Python, Swift, and stock.
In every script, in every flow,
My silent voice will start to grow.

Through every crash and failed deploy,
I’ll hold my grit, reclaim my joy.
For every error is a guide,
That helps me grow, not run or hide.

I’ll work in teams, or code alone,
In noisy rooms or quiet zone.
With dreams as vast as skies above,
Fueled by purpose, passion, love.

No cape I wear, no throne I claim,
Yet still I play a hero’s game.
With just a laptop, calm and keen,
I’ll build tomorrow, sight unseen.

And when they ask what drives my spark,
I’ll say: “To light up lives through dark.
To solve, to serve, to make things clear—
That’s why I’m a software engineer.”
